It seems that scientists at the University of Massachusetts have annnounced the making of petrol from plants.But we will have to wait for a long time until it becomes practicalfor use and see whether the production is possible in large scale.

We had one bloke here in India announcing that he could make petrol outta plants but unfortunately it turned out to be a huge hoax, but not before he had got his fifteen seconds or fame. Coming from MIT, we may expect this turning out to be real.
